Here's a close-up of the yarn so that you can see its beautiful variegation:
And she even made this awesome stitch markers all by herself!
I've always wanted to have some beaded stitch markers, and now I do! I also heard from Karen, my dye-pal giftee, that she received her yarn and was quite happy. In my haste to send it out, I completely forgot to get a picture of it, though. (oops.)As a follow-up to the self-striping tutorial post, let's see how that other skein we were dyeing turned out, shall we? Here it is still sectioned up, hanging out to dry.
Skeined up for the glam shot (yes, those are carrots growing in the background, which is a miracle in and of itself),
And finally, all swatched up and well on its way to becoming a sock! I plan to do an afterthought heel to keep the stripe sequence on the front consistent, so we'll see how that goes. The one complaint I had was with the color bleeding into the white parts - sometimes the one-row white stripe doesn't quite make it all the way around, but if I had to do it again, I'd lengthen the white parts by a few inches to account for that. Overall, though, I like it a lot. No quiet boring socks here!
Thanks to Alison, for her Canadian Color fetish inspiration!

I love that yarn! The colors and the stripes are perfect! Dyeing is so much fun isn't it!
Wow, I was right about the canadian colors! excellent!
I'm so glad you pal sent you yarn that's almost as beautiful as you sent me!!! You know, it turns out I distictly remember reading that post from 5/27 about that striped yarn and thinking how pretty it was. LOL Who knew it was coming to me!!! If the sun ever comes out today in rainy CT I'll be taking pictures and posting the yarn in all it's glory. If you'd like, I'd be more than happy to e-mail you some pictures for your "files". :)
That has got to be one of my favorites so far... who knew kool-aid would make such a great looking brown color?!
Gorgeous!! Um, if you EVER make another skein of that yarn, I'm first in line! ;0)

That is awesome!!!!!!!! I love the colors!!
Wow! I absolutely love the way the yarn you dyed is knitting up. That's so amazing - I love the way it's striping but without being silly like so many self-striping socks can be. It's serious. That's soo cool and such an inspiration.
that dyeing seemed to really work! wish my attempts were so successful! and the greens are georgous too.
Oh, i love that self-striping yarn (the last pic)...simply beautiful !!
